Since then the Melbourne artist has been busy playing shows with her new musical companions, including a support with Sydney artist IOTA, and is writing new material for an album which is to be recorded in the summer. Ainslie began developing her musical skills at a very young age by playing along with songs she liked at the time, including That’s What Friends Are For and anything from Xanadu – arguably one of the worst films ever made. Her fascination with singing and music in general continued to develop into her teens as she started to write her own songs. Ainslie studied and gigged in Ballarat, Victoria for two years after high school but it was when she was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts (AKA music boot camp) that she was able to thicken her musicality and start to make a dent in the Melbourne music scene. Her songs are harmonically lush with an honest lyrical approach and with influences ranging from Dvorak through Wes Montgomery to Jeff Buckley and beyond, Ainslie Wills is worth having a listen to.
