Black Cab also features collaborations and live performances with some great Australian musicians including Alex Jarvis (Automatic), Ashley Naylor (Even), Anthony Paine (High Pass Filter), Richard Andrew (Registered Nurse, Underground Lovers), and Steve Law (Zen Paradox). Black Cab's 2004 debut album, Altamont Diary was released to great critical acclaim in Australia, UK and Europe, earning glowing reviews in Uncut Magazine, US Rolling Stone, Q Magazine, The Times, The Age and many others. Altamont Diary was inspired by the notorious Rolling Stones free concert held at the Altamont Speedway in December 1969, as captured in the heralded 1970 film Gimme Shelter. At Altamont the Hells Angels beat a swathe through the dazed, drug-ripped remnants of the Summer of Love as the Rolling Stones played on… The band's second album, Jesus East will be released in Australia in August 2006. Jesus East is something of an antidote to the fear and loathing of AD, blending late '60's and early '70's rock sounds with loops and subtle electronica over pulsing percussion and driving guitars reminiscent of some of the great German rock bands of the '70's. Jesus East evokes ghosts of the Velvet Underground, Can, Neu and coolest Beatle George Harrison's fascination with eastern sounds. Jesus East will be released in late August through Interstate 40 and Pharmacy Records via Inertia Distribution with promotion by Remote Control.
