Artist Profile

Miso

Drawing from Dub, Triphop and Broken Beats genres, MISO deliver a unique and captivating live experience. Characteristic of their sound is the contrast between jazz and classical instrumentation with electronic beats. This rare blend is complimented by seductive yet abstract female vocals.

MISO’s core members stem from varied fields within the creative arts industry. Producer Thomas (Soup) Campbell has acquired two diplomas of contemporary music and a Degree in Sound Technology. Violoncellist and lawyer Benjamin (Benshaman) Skepper is classically trained also in piano and harpsichord. He has toured nationally and internationally as a guest soloist with full orchestra at the age 10. Benjamin has collaborated with many prominent artists including Curse ov Dialect, Uberlingua, Sunwrae ensemble and Dj Gsan/Thief (Syncopated Zen/Ninja Tunes). Double Bassist Martin Hadley commenced his musical adventures in a punk band. He has a diploma of contemporary music through Victoria University. Vocalist Supina Bytol has gained a broad knowledge of performance art through her work with Perth outfits Spin-FX and Bizurcus. She holds a Certificate IV in Visual Arts.

MISO have showcased their repertoire through residencies at Melbourne venues including The Evelyn Hotel, St Jeromes, The Cape Lounge and The Black Cat. MISO have performed alongside Australian acts such as Augie March, True Live, Curse ov Dialect, Spoonbill, SS Pecker, Elf Transporter, Macromantics, Blue King Brown, the Presets and International Acts including Kid Koala, Tapes n Tapes, and Kora, amongst others.

MISO kick started summer 2006-07 touring the East Coast with Melbourne Dub outfit "The Red Eyes", selling out their debut self-titled E.P. Festivals from therein include Folk Rhythm & Life Festival, Meredith Music Festival, Rainbow Serpent Festival, St Kilda Festival and Tasmania Forest Festival.

MISO as a unit is committed to sonic, professional and personal evolution but this does not cease at the level of music composition, production and performance. MISO is dedicated to bridging the gaps amongst various players in the Creative Arts Industry and actively seek to collaborate with those people interested in expanding on what is thought to be creative artistic norms.

Testament to this commitment is MISO's first EP recorded in the Taradale forest amphitheatre. Envisaged as an alternative production mechanism, nature bestowed an escape from the often sterile surroundings of the recording studio, provided a diffuse recording environment perfect for the production technique intended and inspired individual performance creativity. The recording brought a result of professional quality yet outside the parameters of orthodox recording stylism.

MISO launched their double EP at the Evelyn Hotel Saturday 3 March 2007 to a sell out crowd of 400+ sweaty, steamy, sassy punters, with a stellar line up of Monsoon Moon, Velure and Spoonbill. Stay tuned as MISO skyrocket into unchartered territory.
