Three Month Sunset

Three Month Sunset is the solo project of one Gabe Lewis, renowned multi-instrumentalist and occasional member of a-mo. Gabe lived in Darwin for a time where he said the people did not seem right. His music is warm and lulling, but without the soporific sense of repetition that those words can imply. The sound is in many ways enormous, and creates an atmosphere too distinct and engrossing for the word atmospheric to be in any way accurate. While Eno coined the term ambient music lying in bed listening to the rain, unable to move after being hit by a car, Gabe is alive and well, and his music is easily distinguishable from both the elements and contemporary Eno-lite. Gabe spits on new age music, and then stamps on it. He has large boots.

The music of Three Month Sunset is a dense, dreamy and accomplished thing. The swooning and cascading sheets of guitar recall mid-period Windy Carl filtered through the most realised aspects of English shoegaze. While much ambient music is designed for telemovies and dance therapists, Three Month Sunset rewards close listeningits deceptively complex harmonics equally appropriate for coitus or rest. Any elderly person can rightly tell you the simple truth: young people are caught up in a huge array of meaningless shit these days. They could do well to sit down with a cool drink and try Three Month Sunset for a balancing dose of virtuosity and heart.
