Colin Hopkins, winner of 2nd annual Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival Commission

The Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival was formed in 2005 to celebrate Melbourne's burgeoning creative jazz scene. Building on the unprecedented success of the 2005 and 2006 festivals, we are once again ready to party with eleven days and nights of original music featuring Melbourne's most celebrated improvisers. This year we have also expanded our interstate program with a number of awesome interstate guests and concerts presented by Sydney's Jazzgroove.

The 2007 Jazz Fringe Festival kicks off in Federation Square with a series of concerts including free outdoor events and the 2nd annual Jazz Fringe Commission Concert this year awarded to Colin Hopkins for a project featuring Colin Hopkins Trio with the Silo String Quartet.

The Federation Square program is followed by a series of performances at venues including Bar Open, Lebowski�s, Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, Caf� 303, The Artery, La Mama and the Northcote Uniting Church; all of which are venues committed to nurturing Melbourne�s creative music scene. Come and hear some of the most engaging and adventurous musicians on the Australian jazz and creative music scene: Scott Tinkler, Vanessa Tomlinson (Bris), Gerard Masters Trio (Sydney), Simon Barker (Sydney), Ren Walters, Adam Simmons, Andrea Keller Quartet, Tristram Williams� Diode, Adrian Sherriff�s Nandi, Shannon Barnett, Stephen Magnusson, 20th Century Dog (Sydney), Bennetts Lane Big Band, Marinucci/Archer/Disario, Julien Wilson, Vada, Peter Knight�s 5+2 Brass Ensemble, the Twelve Tone Diamonds and much more.
